And Why Not - CD

My new cd is called "And Why Not."  It's mostly solo fingerstyle guitar, and I added bodhran, cittern and wooden flute on some tracks. The tunes are mostly traditional reels, jigs, hornpipes and airs from Ireland and Scotland, with a contemporary American "old time" tune by Jay Unger and a slow reel by a friend of mine who lives in Scotland, Rebecca Knorr. I contributed one original, "Tune For Gia."

You can find the graphics from the cd, including track list, notes on the tunes and credits on the Photos page.

I played a '34 Martin 000-18 for most of the tracks, also using a Kent Hamblin SJ for one track (which I forgot to mention in the liner notes, sorry Kent!), a baritone guitar built by Tony Yamamoto, and a short scale 12 string cittern built by Joe Veillette. The flute is a circa 1840 Herman Wrede cocuswood 8 key with a cocuswood headjoint by Peter Noy, and the bodhrans are by Steve Forman and Christian Hedwitschak.

Guitar parts were tracked with either a pair of '80's Neumann KM84's or a pair of '60's Schoeps CM65 tube mics. The bodhran mic was an AKG D112, flute mics were Schoeps CMC6. Preamps were Focusrite Red for the Schoeps and AKG, and Pendulum Audio for the Neumanns. Mixing and mastering was to ProTools at 24 bit, 96 kHz. Discmakers did the design work for the cd graphics. And poof! there you have it.

You can listen to the whole album on the music page. If you'd like to order a copy of the physical cd by mail you could send me a check for $15 each plus $2. postage if you're here in the U.S. Overseas please add $7. postage.
