Dave Ogden: Bio

Hello, thanks for visiting my site. I've been playing the guitar since I was 10 years old, and added wooden flute, bodhran (the Irish frame drum), banjo, hurdy gurdy and several mandolin family instruments along the way. I'm also a songwriter, producer, recording engineer, studio owner, poet and collector of instruments and recording equipment. Most of my music is traditional, from the “Celtic” lands of Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and the like, as well as old-time American. You can listen to my solo cd "And Why Not" on the Music page.

I grew up in Spokane, Washington, went to college in central Massachusetts, lived in Boston, the Bay Area, the L.A. area and currently live on a small ranch in the mountains of Central California, about 2 hours north of L.A. and a 1/2 hour east of Bakersfield. I started playing in bands within a few months of getting my first guitar, and I’ve continued for most of my life. I’m from a musical family. My Mom and Dad, Margot and Bob, both played piano, my brother Rob plays violin in the Spokane Symphony, my brother Doug plays guitar, drums and cello. My Grandad on my Dad's side played guitar and fiddle, and both my Great and Great Great Ogden Grandfathers were old time fiddlers in Harrison Co., West Virginia. Over the years in my performing career I've shared stages with Jackson Browne, Richard Thompson, Loudon Wainwright, Alasdair Fraser, David Greenberg, Abby Newton, Kim Robertson and other heros.

I play fingerstyle guitar solo, and in a duo with my wife, Brenda Hunter, who plays fiddle, hammered dulcimer, piano and harp, to which I get to add my wooden flute and clawhammer banjo. I also currently play guitar and bodhran in a traditional Irish music band called the Sunday Drivers with mandolinist Ashley Broder, fiddle and flute players Allison and Nicolas Buckmelter, and fiddler Chris Loken. We’re at Dargan’s Pub in Ventura the first and third Sunday evenings of every month from 4 to 6pm. We released our cd called “Eire Mail” in December of 2009. Our website is available on my links page. I previously played with another celtic trio called Blarney Rubble, we released our eponymous album in 2000. More info on that band is available on my links page. You can also find out more about my studio Clear Creek Recording on the links page.

Thanks again for visiting! I look forward to hearing from you!
